Preface:
Hello hello, in this project I am going to talk about abortion in two states of America.
I choose the states Kentucky and Colorado. The situation around abortion is different in both states. During the project I’m going to tell you are more about those differences. I also hope that I can answer the questions below:
- How does abortion works?
- The history of abortion in America.
- What is the current situation in the USA around abortion?
- How is the situation in Kentucky?
- How is the situation in Colorado?
- Which state do I prefer and why?
- Sources.
I hope I can answer all those during the project. Have fun reading!
How does abortion works?
Pregnant women can have different reasons why they want to have an abortion. Some women do not want the baby because they are raped or you had an unsafe reproduction.
Only licensed hospitals or clinics can cure an abortion. There are 2 ways of doing an abortion. The first method is to take pills that stops the pregnancy. The second way is a surgical abortion. For this method you need an operation to het the baby out.
The history of abortion in America:
The fist law that made abortion illegal was created in 1820s. That was for the safety of pregnant women, but they didn’t maintain very strictly. That law was against black slaves and took care of that the owners could rule if they may gave abortion. In most cases the owners wanted the slave to have many kids so they have more helps for themselves.
In the late 1900s there came a law that made having an abortion more difficult because every state made it illegal. This was against the women’s right movement that aspired to demand for birth control. Suddenly was the law not for birth control but to control women.
What is the current situation in the USA around abortion?
There are many different opinions in America around abortion, should it be legal of illegal?
Well, as we all know are there many people who live in the USA, around 33 million humans. More then a half of those 33 million people are christians and if you believe very strict then abortion is seen as killing children. But there are also a lot of people (including some christian) who thinks that abortion is a human right. So that means that you can choose by yourself if you want to do an abortion, yes or no.
To make the current situation clear I’ve made a mindmap.

How is the situation in Kentucky around doing an abortion?
In the state Kentucky is decided to ban all the abortions in the state. The Supreme Court decided to make ‘trigger laws’ which are made to ban abortion. 57% of the people in Kentucky think that abortion should be illigal and only 36% think that it should be legal. The rest of the habitants have a neutral opinion about having an abortion. 44% of the people in Kentucky are republicans and the global view of republicans around abortion is that abortion should be legal. But Kentucky’s government has decided to make abortion illigal in the state. So the government forbids abortion.
How is the situation in Colorado around having an abortion?
In Colorado is abortion legal. The government there has listened to the 59% of the adults that thinks abortion should be legal in most cases. Only 39% is against the legality and 5% is neutral. In the year 2017 there were 12.390 provided in Colorado. These abortions were not only habitants from the states, it is also included the people who came to Colorado for an abortion. This is because having an abortion is not legal in all the American states. The clinics in Colorado are safe and they all have a license, but if you want to do an abortion you have to pay all the costs by yourself. There is no insurance that covers your account.
Which state do I prefer and why?
In my opinion is abortion a human right to everyone who thinks that they need an abortion. It is a very difficult decision to make and that is why it is so important to make abortion safe for everyone. Pregnancy is very heavy for the human body and so is giving birth to a child. If a woman want to have an abortion it has to be safe for the female and the child!
So I prefer the state Colorado. But I disagree with the fact that women have to pay everything by themselves. An insurance is a good way to give everyone a chance to have an abortion.
Women have to make their own choice about their own body!
I also made a presentation for this project and those slides are below.
