Katherine Goble Johnson

Biography:
Katherine was born in West Virginia on 26th of August 1918.
Her parents were Joylette Roberta Lowe Coleman and Joshua McKinley Coleman. Her mother, Joylette was born in 1887 en died on the 8th October 1971. Katherine her dad, Joshua was born in 1881 and he died in April 1973. Katherine’s parents were married on 29th September 1909
She had 2 older brothers named Horace and Charles, she also had an older sister named Margaret.
Horace was born in 1912 and Charles was born in 1915 so he was the youngest after Katherine. Margaret was born in 1913 so Horace was the oldest of the children.
Katherine was the youngest child in the family.
Her mother was a primary school teacher and her father had various jobs he worked in the farm he did odd jobs and he was a janitor.
High school and university:
After her primary school she goes to the West Virginia State College, because she was interested in astronomy. She took lessons by very great professors. That was an important part of her life.
At West Virginia State College she was taught mathematics by James Carmichael Evans.
By all of the professors ( O.A by James ) was she a very good student. She really paid attention en she liked it.
When she was 18 she finished her study in French and mathematics that was in 1937.
Like her mother she became a teacher. She gave lessons in French, mathematics and music.
But she knew that she can do more for people worldwide, and in 1938 she was the first Afro American female witch was accepted on the university in Morgantown. For her that was a very big step because she was from a school teacher into an very professional school student.
But, something else came up…
Family:
Katherine was married in 1939 with James Francis Globe. She got to know him at the West Virginia state college. They got 3 daughters: Constance Globe, Joylette Globe ( to Katherine’s mother ) and the youngest of the 3 Katherine Globe.
All her 3 daughters liked mathematics and teaching like their mother.
Regrettably James died on the 20th of December 1956. In 1959 she met a new man named and they get married. His name was James A. Johnson.
He took care of Katherine her daughters and Katherine go further with her studies.
Regrettably, she had to give up her studies since her husband became ill and Katherine had to return to teaching to support her family. ( her husband became better, lucky. )
So she goes on with her studies!!
NASA:
When NASA first used electronic computers to calculate John Glenn’s orbit around Earth in 1962, Katherine was asked to calculate the result. After helping with that, NASA was deeply interested in Katherine. She decided to work there as a Pioneer. When in 1969 she wanted to launch the Apollo 11 (a rocket) to the moon, Katherine was asked to calculate everything for that flight. She did, and from then on she became incredibly important to NASA. After that she also helped with the flight of the Apollo 13 in 1970. Unfortunately that flight was not safe. The Astronauts who were on board the rocket panicked. Katherine used all kinds of equipment to ensure that they could be safely returned to Earth!
Later she also helped with the Space Shuttle program and the mission to Mars.
She was a true legend to NASA!

And how they worked at NASA. The premiere was on 10 December 2016. Katherine was nominated for de Grammy awards with hidden figures!

Katherine won a lots of prizes, total 22 prices, and the most important was the Presidential medal of freedom. That was also her first price, here are the rest of prices on a row:
Honorary Doctorate of Science in 2006 and 2010.
The best Alumnus of the Year in 1999.
Honorary Doctor of Laws in 1998.
NASA Langley Research Center Special Achievement award in 1971, 1980, 1984, 1985 and 1986.
Apollo Group Achievement Award in 1967.
NASA Lunar Orbiter Spacecraft and Operations team award also in 1967.
